servers. Different visitors, visiting at the same time, through the same
proxy server can now usually be distinguished by agent string.
- There are dramatic speedups for configurations with a large number
of sub-reports.

can be viewed as soon as crunching is complete, without waiting for DNS
lookups to complete. Because of this, DNS lookups now default to on. The

as either just date or as date and time.
- The DNS cache file is now written as a text file. It is no longer

internal server to disconnect connection instead of using orderly
disconnect. Several other small changes to the HTTP server code. Updated

directory listing correctly. Speed up mini-graph display in browser.
Time between Visits in the summary was just wrong. Log
Downloading is now available in the non-Pro version. Summary should now

January 11, 1999
Summary 1.2b1 for Macintosh - This is a preliminary beta, as with
any Beta release, it has not been fully tested. Please use with caution.
There are several new features in Summary 1.2. Incremental downloading
of log files with FTP or HTTP. Sub-folders are now allowed in the logs
folder and set the server name to the folder name if there isnt
already a server name. New Ads report, which reports on a
configurable sub-set of all requests (typically Ad banners). The new
Hits Over Time report column shows a small graph of hits for
up to the last 30 days for each item in any of several reports, more
detail below. Added an option, per sub-report, to remove the first
directory name from each request. Increased the default number of hours,
hourly information is kept for, to two weeks. Summary now uses slightly
more memory than it used to, to keep track of the new data. There are
now nearly 80 different reports!
The new Hits Over Time report column is available in the
Browsers, Platforms, Requests, Referrers, Referring Domains, Web Robots,
and Virtual Servers data types. New reports that use the new column
include Pages Over Time, Refers Over Time, and Peak Daily Visits. It now
appears by default in the Browser Report, Platform Report, Web Robots,
Directory Report, Pages Over Time, Virtual Servers, Referring Domains,
and Referrers Over Time reports. The Directory Detail report has been
added to preserve some of the information removed from the Directory
report to make room.
Several bugs have been fixed: Log detail now splits into pages of 100
entries each, to prevent a crash with hundreds of log files. Fixed
TIME-12 format (used in FileMaker Pro logs) to work at 12 PM (noon).
Fixed the CS(HOST) field in ExLF log format.
External referrers are now only counted if they occur in a log entry
that starts a visit. This works around a browser frame bug and an AOL
proxy bug both of which cause referrers to appear and be counted extra
times. For some people this will result in significant reductions in the
referrer counts. While the new numbers will be lower than before, they
should much more accurately reflect the actual number of refers.
None of these changes are reflected in the documentation.
December 7, 1998

official release of Summary for the Linux Intel platform. There are also
several small bug fixes for the Macintosh version. Hits per day in the
monthly report is now based on the correct number of days in each month.
W3C ExLF logs without a date on each line now work correctly. Reports
are not disabled when using configuration password, but the summary
report is still abbreviated. Now reads more log files with dates
seriously out of order. New configuration option Log file dates
may overlap for forcing a complete scan of all log files for the
actual last date instead of assuming that they can be sequentially
ordered. Fixed a hard crash when deleting a sub-report right after auto
configuration or in other cases where very little configuration has
happened but there are many sub-reports. Now supports newer variants of
Microsoft IIS format.

links from static HTML reports.
