March 14, 2006 Fixed a cross site scripting vulnerability. If an attacker was able to induce an authorized user of Summary to click on a specially crafted URL the attacker could in theory have gained access to their copy of Summary with rights equal to that of the user. Added some missing column help. Added some new known search engines. It was impossible to disable more than 198 reports, fixed. Main page redirects were being ignored in static HTML, fixed. The Search Phrase/Engine Table report wasn't properly encoding some search phrases, fixed. Column help for Country (GeoIP) was showing information for Region instead, fixed. What’s new in version 2.6.7? February 21, 2006 The Macintosh version now includes native support for Intel based Macs. Added computer detection for visitors using Macintosh on Intel. Improved gaps in service detection so that it won't trigger as easily on out of order log entries from large downloads. Added %%%IF-REPORT conditional option in custom HTML. Improved exporting of gaps in service durations into spreadsheets. Added ja-jp-mac language code description. Summary could crash, or process incorrectly, when there were sub-report specific aliases and there were not also global aliases, fixed. No longer allows all numeric TLDs in the Top Level Domains report. The "Screen Size (at least)" section on the Visitors Overview was mistakenly showing information for all sub-reports, fixed. A few of the totals in the content overview could be too low when "Expire req. and ref. if not hit every N days (0-don't)" was enabled, fixed. <sum-link to=manual> and <sum-link to=main> were not working in custom HTML, fixed. What’s new in version 2.6.6? January 5, 2006 In Summary SP Lite and SP, added a per report optional end user visible popup filter list. In Summary SP Lite and SP, added user filters 9-12. Static HTML and e-mailed reports now correctly use custom HTML. Monthly Search Engines was showing weekly, fixed. Search Engine drill downs were all broken in 2.6.5, fixed. Daily, Weekly, and Monthly Search Engines were listed incorrectly on the Disable Reports configuration page, fixed. The CGI Tags report was not allowing most custom column configurations, fixed. Deleting a global alias would give an error message, fixed. Backslash, '\', was not working in Aliases, fixed. Fixed a problem starting up on OS X when single quote (') was used in the name of one of the folders containing Summary. What’s new in version 2.6.5? November 3, 2005 Added three new reports, Daily/Weekly/Monthly Search Engines. Added platform detection for several more phones. In 2.6.4, global report disables were getting lost each time Summary launched, fixed. If you lost report disables in 2.6.4 you should load a backup from a previous version (on the Tools configuration page). Possible fix for the "ares_init failed (code 14)" issue on Windows. Drilling down on the "Others" item in the Referrers : Search Engines report wasn't working, fixed. What’s new in version 2.6.4? October 26, 2005 On OS X, the Summary console window now quits properly from the dock and when logging out. On OS X, an HTTP client aborting a connection could abort processing or crash Summary. New optional column in Search Phrases by Search Engine, phrase with link to engine. Allows you to see your search phrase in context at the search engine, for a few of the major search engines. Average View Time is now available as an optional column in date reports. Added Windows Vista and Windows Smartphone platform detection. Vista was getting reported as XP and Smartphone was getting detected as CE. Now writes SFTP connection error messages into the log file. Reduced the frequency of "unable to access database" errors during DNS lookups. Reports as spreadsheet and text now have appropriate file name extensions. Now saves the database every six hours of processing during extremely long processing runs (except on Linux, which saves continuously). What’s new in version 2.6.3? October 3, 2005 Spike explanations and the Search Phrase/Engine report had invalid links in static HTML, fixed. On some configurations of Windows all DNS lookups were failing, fixed. Fixed a "LogMerge.cpp:1144: failed assertion" when a log file started in the hour after the end of a date range. Views could display values that were drastically too high when there were both hits and failed reloads, fixed. Sub-report specific aliases now happen after "Query tag to include in request". Configuring "Visit initiating query strings to ignore" when there was only one sub-report had no effect, fixed. Adding a global request alias was crashing, fixed. Occasional visit initiating referrers were not getting filtered when they should have been, fixed. Expanded some of the abreviations used in the Memory by Type section of the Program Status report. What’s new in version 2.6.2? September 19, 2005 Fixed a crash when writing static HTML reports. Added detection of numerous new proxy clusters, Plus, SP Lite, and SP only. Added a new filter, "Ignore browsers (ie robots only)", Plus, SP Lite, and SP only. Added "Visit initiating query strings to ignore" filter, SP Lite and SP only. Rearranged the order of filters on the Filtering configuration page. Moved "Ignore known and likely robots" to be the first filter. Added platform detection for several cell phones. Reorganized the Computer Report. Created a new Linux/Unix category. Added several cell phone platforms to the Phones category. Added several new known robots. Improved machine name detection on Mac and Linux. Reduces the frequency of the "Warning: Configured machine name is unusable, using default name!" warning message. When installed to run at startup, the Mac version now monitors it's self and restarts after any serious problems. Reinstated search.yahoo.(com,net,co.jp) as known search engines. Added an explanation for "/scripts/abhisek.asp". Added NewsFire and Shrook as known browsers. Now detects the platform for AppleSyndication as Mac PPC. What’s new in version 2.6.1? What’s new in version 2.6? September 12, 2005 New Mac OS X native version of Summary. Mac OS 8/9 and Sun SPARC are no longer supported starting with this release. Added seven new time period reports, Hourly-Yearly Visits, with new One Page Visits, Tracked Visits (Plus, SP Lite, & SP only), Search Visits, and Robot Visits columns. Added Total View Time to the Daily-Yearly Metrics reports. Added tracking for a second goal in SP Lite and SP. Added five new reports: Goal Twos, Tracking Tags by Goal Twos, Referring Domains by Goal Two, Search Phrases by Goal Two, Search Words by Goal Two (all SP Lite and SP only). Added Daily/Weekly/Monthly Tracking Tags reports (Plus, SP Lite, and SP only). New Visits column available in Content reports. Counts the number of visits which requested any given file (Plus, SP Lite, and SP only). Added File Types Over Time report. Now supports up to 12 content groups in SP Lite and SP. The Auth Users Report now supports current hits and hits over time columns. Added a new column, log file currently exists in the Logs folder, to the Log Detail report. The Agent Strings Report now displays, and is sorted by, visits. Summary can now detect that a log file has been compressed and not count it twice if both an uncompressed and a compressed copy are present in the same folder. The main configuration page now shows which sub-reports don't have passwords (if at least one does). Summary can now read log files of any size (>4Gig). Improved internal database layout allows more data to fit into the database. Most users will see a slight reduction in RAM usage, though in some rare cases Summary may require more RAM. This change is particularly significant as you approach the 2 Gig limit in Summary SP Lite and SP, allowing the database to hold between 10% and 30% more information before filling up. Monthly reports now report on 14 months (instead of 13). Summary no longer reads logs whose first date is after the global stop processing after date (since they would be filtered out in any case). Added a configurable value for reaching the goal (and goal two in SP Lite and SP). Summary now allows Growth and Growth Trend columns in daily/weekly/monthly reports. Summary now searches for logs one level deeper in the Logs folder (now 4 levels). Added a search word exclude list (Plus, SP Lite, and SP only). Added "rel=nofollow" to external links on static HTML reports. Improved Safari version detection, now uses the version number from the about box instead of the build number. Added optional flipped bar charts (right to left instead of left to right). Tracking tags are now displayed with the correct CGI translations, when appropriate (SP Lite and SP only). Now reports log file open errors in the Log Files report as "ReadErr". Previously these log files would not appear in the Log Files report at all. Added quite a few new known browsers, including RSS readers and media players. Added some new top level domain descriptions for recently approved top level domains. Added error explanations for prxjdg.cgi and /_vti_bin/owssvr.dll. An out of memory FAQ link is now included with the out of memory warning when viewing reports using the configuration name/password. The Agent Strings Report now supports the Visits column. Now ignores control characters (codes 0-31) in search phrases. Improved the appearance of the tab bars in configuration. Added BecomeBot, CNET_Snoop, Tcl, and cURL as a known robots. Added Commodore 64 as a known platform. Fixed some situations where newer versions of OmniWeb were getting detected as Safari. Now updates processing status during log header checks. Several new proxy cluster translations. Improved second level domain detection for msn.com, distinguishes their search indexing robot from their ISP customers. Added descriptions for several more file types. Now distinguishes GMail at Google from Google the search engine in the Referring Domain reports. Now distinguishes mail, groups, etc at Yahoo from Yahoo the search engine in the Referring Domain reports. Now uses Search Engines (no country) in the Referrers Overview, instead of with country. Extracting search words from phrases now recognizes several <tag>: specials in google searches (define: movie: link: related: site: and so on). A <sum-link> to an invalid report in custom HTML could crash, fixed. The Windows version would sometime hang waiting for a CR, fixed. Now properly detects Netscape 8 in MSIE compatibility mode. Added detection of the MacUpdate_Harvest robot, previously being reported as MS IE. Upgraded to PCRE 6.3, BZLib 1.2.3, and ZLib 1.2.3. Custom HTML pages ending in '>' could have extra junk appended, fixed. Moved the Base Directory configuration setting onto the Details configuration page. A "Restore failed on merge!" error would leave the database locked, preventing subsequent log processing, fixed. Fixed a bug in the Macintosh version where log files currently open for writing by a web server on the same machine would appear to be over 2 Gig in size, which would result in numbers in the reports which were way too large. Fixed a bug in the OSX Command Line version where the database would become corrupt if another program was accessing the disk rapidly while Summary was processing logs. Added a more specific error message for don't have permission errors on the "-quit" command line option. The Macintosh version now provides an optional install script for launching automatically at startup. The 30 day trial version message at the top of each page is now smaller for the first ten days. Simplified the procedure for getting a 30 day trial registration code. Added a purchase link to the main config page if not already registered. The upgrade available message when there are too many sub-reports now directly links to upgrade page. Added an upgrade button to Tools page. What’s new in version 2.5.5? May 10, 2005 Added CGI Tags and CGI Tags and Values reports. Added Hijacking by Bytes report. Added Referring Domains by Bytes report. Added Robots by Bytes report. Added Virtual Domains by Bytes report. Config, column, and report help now appear in a popup window. Several small changes and improvements to the Bandwidth and Visitors overviews, including several new sections reporting on possible causes for high bandwidth and a new Screen Size at least section. New Guess Log Format report, linked to from the Log Files report on log files with only parse errors. New "ParseErr", "Empty", "ReadErr", "InProcess", "2GigLimit", and "4GigLimit" status messages in the Parse Error column of the Log Files and Log Details reports. Added a confirm dialog when deleting a sub-report. Added several new columns: Bytes per Visit/Hit, % of total Bytes, % of total Hits, Hijacking Bytes, Hijacking % of total Bytes. Added a couple of new report filters. The Bytes column in the Referring Domains report now show the total bytes for all visits referred by that domain, not just the bytes associated with the first hit of the visit. Eliminated the Memory Available line in the Program Status report. It rarely appeared and when it did appear it was frequently incorrect. Summary now ignores extra fields at the end of NCSA Combined log lines, instead of reporting a parse error. Added Lotus Notes as a known browser. Added some new known robots. Added some new known search engines. Memory used and Physical memory are now reported in Meg. The Mac and OSX versions now report physical RAM above 2 Gig correctly. Unique hosts in the Visitors Overview was low in some situations, fixed. Improved the formatting of download error reports. Also, Summary now reports the two most recent download errors, instead of just one. Summary now resets the FTP REST offset to zero after a transfer in which it was non-zero to work around a bug in some FTP servers where they remember the REST offset setting from the previous transfer. Added support for the "title" option in the <sum-link> custom HTML tag. Hits reported in the Paths by Source and Paths by Dest. reports didn't always add up correctly, fixed. "Incremental every hour, regular on schedule" was not being completely ignored in incremental mode, fixed. Filter two was showing "Show All Sub-items" sometimes when it shouldn't, fixed. The Windows version of Summary would sometimes lock up if Windows had not been re-booted in more than 49 days, fixed. Disabling a sub-report wasn't disabling writing of static HTML reports or sending of e-mails, fixed. What’s new in version 2.5.4a? February 27, 2005 The Macintosh System 8, 9 and OS X version had the wrong file name for the Summary application, fixed. What’s new in version 2.5.4? February 22, 2005 Added a new report 'Compare Time Periods'. This report allows you to compare totals between two arbitrary time periods. Available in Summary Plus, SP Lite, and SP. It is now possible to override the Report Menu with custom HTML as was already possible for the Overviews in Summary SP Lite and SP only. 1-page-visits are now correctly subtracted out from enters. Enters and exits now both consistently only count multi-page visits. It is now possible to disable the Program Status report. Also, it now shows on the report menu unless disabled. Used to only appear for the configuration name/password user. Added Auth Users by Bytes report. Added a Search Phrase by Search Engine threshold on the Memory configuration page. You can now disable the Paths:Paths report separately from the by source, by dest. disable. Now treats ';' parameters as part of the query string. Changed log parsing to recognize and decode '\' quoting in Apache logs. Added a report of backup file size to the restore backups page. Added several new proxy clusters. The Host with IP Addr report now shows '(Proxy Cluster)' as the IP address when appropriate. It is now possible to sort by the description column. Summary no longer counts reloads as steps on a path. Step counts will be noticeably lower in some situations because of this. Improved handling of the agent "http://www.almaden.ibm.com/cs/crawler . . .". Added several more known search engines. Now restores a suitable backup (if one is available) when the database is empty or invalid. Updated the Linux version to work with Fedora Core 3 and other new Linux releases. Moved the quarter day reports under Daily. Column help didn't always go to the correct entry when using Safari, fixed. Improved detection of invalid databases. Deleting sub-reports would occasionally corrupt the database, fixed. Added ".ico" to the default list of graphics request types. Added some new known robots. Now correctly recognizes the 'ja-jpm' language code. Fixed a very rare download error when the old copy was exactly 2048 bytes. No longer shows a list of sub-report selections when it shouldn't in name/password based sub-report lists. Fixed a rare problem where the Excel export would occasionally be missing lines. Fixed a problem when drilling down in browser reports. Improved browser and platform detection. Improved the accuracy of the memory usage calculation in the Program Status report. Improved internal error reporting. Small changes to the Javascript code to validate as HTML 4. Updated PCRE to version 5.0. What’s new in version 2.5.3? December 7, 2004 Made significant improvements to the Modem Proxy feature. Now works with many more web sites. Added Daily and Weekly Directories reports. Added a disable sub-report check box in SP Lite and SP. Disables reports, log processing, log downloading, and appearance in sub-report reports. Added a Views column (requests minus reloads) to the Download Requests reports. Added an errors column to the Reloads report. Added a summary line to the Fan In/Out report for (Enter) and (Leave). Added a 3 or more hits filter to the Visits:Steps report. Can now read logs with up to 70 fields per line, used to be limited to 50. Modem proxy now gives an error message when the preferred domain is not configured. Strip dir names combined with include query strings could very occasionally corrupt requests (that had too few dir names and a '/' in the query), fixed. Added a warning message when FTP directories are larger than the in memory buffer, also increased the buffer size slightly. Fixed a problem that allowed changing some sub-report settings in incremental mode when they should have been locked (on Linux, Sun, OSX Command Line). Using the '-l' command line option (Linux, OSX, Sun) could cause crashes when running out of memory, fixed. Sorting by Avg Steps didn't always get the order right, fixed. The Fan In/Out report now works correctly with URLs that have a '?' in them. Dual reports didn't always drill correctly if the selected item had fewer than 3 hits. Various paths reports now work correctly when "Query tag to include in request" is set so long as you also turn on "Pre-filter local referrers". What’s new in version 2.5.2a? June 9, 2004 Summary 2.5.2 was labeled as a beta, fixed. What’s new in version 2.5.2? June 8, 2004 New prune database function on the Tools page when in incremental mode, and corresponding setting on the Memory configuration page. Now distinguishes between IE 5.(0-4) and 5.(5-9) Upgrading Summary SP to version 2.5 could give an "Assertion 'allow_type2 || !type2_index' failed." error, fixed. WebSTAR PATH_ARGS in logs could in rare cases cause crashes, fixed. The Windows installer was writing the Extras directory contents in the wrong place, fixed. The Fan In/Out report wasn't checking for buffer overflow, fixed. Now expires hours and days each month, instead of once at the end of processing. The Program Status report now counts memory usage using true string lengths instead of using estimates. The Macintosh version of Summary wasn't detecting all possible aliases to folders correctly. It treated some rare cases as if they were aliases to files, and thus didn't read the logs correctly, fixed. Increased the largest supported log entry line length to 32K from 8K. Fixed a problem with a 421 FTP response from server. Now clips requests to 8K, which solves a "DataPutString: String too long, clipped" problem. Now correctly handles status 500, unknown command, on SIZE request to FTP server. "Remove first directory name" now works with URIs that don't start with '/'. Fixed a problem with the interaction of "Remove first directory name" and local referrers. (Overhead) now appears as a sub-report in the Memory by Sub-report table. Fixed a rare crash when processing many sub-reports. Fixed a rare crash when processing very long URLs in incremental mode. Now only displays backup message when actually backing up database. Increased input buffer read size to 64K, from 32K. Backups were not properly restoring the high memory reports, fixed. Missing date information is now counted as a parse error. The database was sometimes listed as corrupt even when it wasn't, fixed. Summary's own log file was sometimes displaying the wrong month, one month early, fixed.
