[Summary-Talk] Linux running and running and...

I recently moved from the Mac version of Summary to the Linux version
(2.3.3), and the speed increase was enormous, though the new hardware
is substantially beefier than the Mac was. I ran Summary for about 3
weeks on Linux before giving clients the new address.

About a week ago, Summary ran its last processing run, though it should
be executed every 2 days. Last night I upgraded to Summary 2.3.4, and
since I use incremental processing, I loaded a backup as per the
upgrade instructions. I told Summary to process logs now, and it ran
overnight. This morning, it was still running...I get "Unable to
acquire database access".

There were 11 Summary processes running, and "./summary -quit" killed 9
of them. I killed off the other 2 manually, and tried launching Summary
again. I got "String table validation error (index count
91561!=83633+7926)! Database is corrupt! Resetting database.", which I
figured meant that I had interrupted Summary and it was angry! But I
assumed it would fix itself with another processing run.

It's been running another 7 hours now, and no sign of progress. I
currently have 11 Summary processes running, which I figure are threads
for doing DNS lookups or the like, although the FAQ says "Normally
there is only one copy running at a time, but it is possible to be
running more than one copy by accident."

Question 1: What's going on there? Should there be one Summary process,
or many? Many when processing, one when idle?

Question 2: Is there any way to find out what Summary is currently
doing? It's been "processing" for 7 hours (much longer than it took
when I first installed it on Linux), and no files that I can see have
been updated in the past 6 hours. (Report.dat, at 104MB, seems to be
the most recently updated file, 6 hours ago).

Cheers,
spud.
