[Summary-Talk] Tracking visitors, best practices?

I have a client who currently has a a site that he has done quite well
with getting on the search engines, the only problem is when customers
go from "his site" to the shopping cart and store, they actually leave
his site and my server to do this, making it impossible to track who
came to his site(from what search engine using what term) and followed
through with an actual purchase.

I am about to create a new site for this client with an integrated
shopping cart & store that will all reside on my server ( except the
actual payement gateway of course).
The goal is to allow us ( him) to track a customer from the search
engine to his site and through to the shopping cart and purchase
process.

My question(s) is: What is the best way to achieve this? What should I
code into my site to allow Summary to track the visitor from entry into
the site all the way through to purchase, while keeping track of the
search engine he got their with as well as the search term used?

I will be using Lasso v 6 and LassoMySQL to create the site.

Also , is there a danger in losing search engine status by changing
pages from .html to .lasso?
Do you know if most search engines now recognize the .lasso extension?
( I will also post this to the lasso talk list)

Thanks
