Just an update: the vnodes were at 99.9 %. System reported 7132 of 7136 being used. I increased the nodes throu the prompt to 20000 (w/o quitting summary) and let the machine continue to run. when it came time to run the logs, same problem. Quit summary, used vnodes jumped to 8400 appx. restarted summary, all is well. Will keep an eye on it, and report. notes: 1. summary have been able to ready the files after the vnode bump w/o restarting? 2, as recommended in the http://summary.net/talk/200310/msg00025.html thread, I went to check out the file at /System/Library/StartupItems/SystemTuning/SystemTuning. the only info in here is: #!/bin/sh exit 0 Is there somewhere in the server the 'addvnodes=512' might be hidden? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jeff Logan" <jefftalk@insideout.com> To: <summary-talk@lists.summary.net> Sent: Monday, November 24, 2003 1:17 PM Subject: Re: [Summary-Talk] Open log file errors > >On 11/24/03 12:07 PM Jeff Logan (jefftalk@insideout.com) wrote: > > > >>>There are now three serious problems in OS X that I have been unable to > >>>find work arounds for and for which Apple has not been very responsive. > >>>If there is any way you can try running Summary on another kind of > >>>machine, I suspect that your problems will go away. > >> > >>I two am having this same problem and have switched to the command > >>line version of Summary for OS X and have not had this problem since. > >>Jason and I have gone around and around on this issue already. > >> > >>Jason could you post the three serious problems? > > > >They have all come up on this list before, though they have not all been > >fully described here. > > > > > >2) OS X does not allocate enough vnodes (an internal system resource) for > >some situations.
