We have three other people reporting similar problems, but have still not 
been able to isolate the exact cause. This problem appears to only occur 
on OS X and I strongly suspect a problem in OS X it's self, but can't 
prove anything yet. If you want I can send you a debugging build that 
reports the system error code returned when Summary is unable to open the 
file. That might shed more light on the situation. If you are interested 
in this, please contact me directly, <jason@summary.net>, and tell me if 
you are using the Macintosh Carbon or OS X Command Line versions of 
Summary.
