Re: [Summary-Talk] Old logs with new logs

Yes, but they are difficult to combine into one sub-report. WebSTAR adds
some additional path information to each request in the log file. In
WebSTAR 4.x this was the part relative to the WebSTAR document root. In
WebSTAR V this is the absolute path on disk. Absolute paths are normally
far longer than relative paths, making it almost impossible to get the
extra path information to match up.

Summary is capable of removing the extra path information, but it can
only remove a single number of directories worth of extra path
information per sub-report. Since WebSTAR 4.x and WebSTAR V logs will
normally have differing numbers of extra directories it is problematic to
get them to match up. You can resolve this problem using Aliases (in Plus
and SP), but the details of how to do that depend on exactly how you have
both versions of WebSTAR setup.

Many people find it sufficient, and much simpler, to create two
sub-reports for each site. One would have the older WebSTAR 4 logs in it
and the other would have the newer WebSTAR V logs in it.

If you do want to attempt the aliases approach you should make sure that
you upgrade to Summary 2.3.10 first. There were some changes and fixes to
the way aliases worked recently that are important. The key is to develop
an alias that translates the older WebSTAR 4.x logs into the format used
by the newer WebSTAR V logs, replacing the old prefix with the new one,
will leaving everything else alone.

Good Luck

Dr. Seuss books . . . can be read and enjoyed on several levels. For
example, 'One Fish Two Fish, Red Fish Blue Fish' can be deconstructed
as a searing indictment of the narrow-minded binary counting system.
