Hi Jason, thanks for the reply. >> It'll run for about six days before it crashes with a kernel >> panic. > > *All* OS X kernel panics indicate either a hardware problem, or a bug > in OS X, or a bug in a third party hardware driver. This is as I expected, which is why I'm not concerned so much with Summary being broken -- it seems to work fine as long as it's working. If our setup is not unusually awkward then I'll not worry about resources and concentrate instead on integrity. I didn't expect a recommendation to revert to OS 9, that's for sure. I had been considering upgrading this machine to 10.3, or at the very least a clean installation of 10.2. Mark Sealy suggested that reinstalling Jaguar helped with Kp's in his case, and so I'm preparing to do that before I start digging into the hardware... After all, this machine did run just fine for several months without crashing. Perhaps it's not the size of the data that is to blame, but a glitch in the OS. In any case, we're trying to eliminate our OS 9 machines in this office, so I won't go that route until I'm sure we can't stabilize OS X. Any thoughts on Summary and Panther? j ------------- Go to <http://summary.net/list.html> to update subscription info.
