On 4/13/04 1:16 PM Gregg Luhring (gregg@3wdesign.com) wrote: >But why is Summary naming the files differently for this site? Summary doesn't name log files. Summary uses the names that the log files already have. Either the FTP server, or the file system, tell Summary what the name of the file is, and that is the name that Summary uses for that log file. What ever is different about that site, it doesn't have anything to do with Summary. There is one twist to this situation in the Macintosh (Carbon) version of Summary. The file system API that Summary is using in the Carbon version limits file names to 31 characters. When the actual file name is longer than 31 characters, the file system invents a 31 character name to stand in for the real name. Summary isn't the only program that does this. The WebSTAR FTP server does the same thing, as do several other programs. Some of your file names look like the kind of name that the file system creates to replace long file names, for example "voyagerinndc_2004-01-#48DA4.txt". The '#' followed by a hexidecimal number is a clue that that is happening. Jason ----------------- Jason@Summary.Net ----------------- Dr. Seuss books . . . can be read and enjoyed on several levels. For example, 'One Fish Two Fish, Red Fish Blue Fish' can be deconstructed as a searing indictment of the narrow-minded binary counting system. -- Peter van der Linden, Expert C Programming, Deep C Secrets ------------- Go to <http://summary.net/list.html> to update subscription info.
