[Summary-Talk] access log numbering

I recently had the IT guy do some work on our web logs. In the process 
the numbering system was restarted. The original logs were
access_log.~2~ which starts at 16/Feb/2003
access_log.~478~ which ends at 12/June/2004
and now, the first log I need is
access_log.~5~which ends at 17/July2004
If I want to use all of the logs, my thinking is I should renumber the 
current series starting at access-log~513, which is the number July 17 
would have been had we not lost a month.
If that is the cse, it may be easier to keep two sets of information 
and compare the two.
