Right, the "Countries (Top Level Domains)" report won't work if your logs contain IP addresses and DNS lookups are disabled in Summary. >I purchased the GeoIP from MaxMind, if I put the file in the config >folder will summary.net lookup the countries based on the ip without >dns lookups. If so what should I name the database, GeoIP.dat or the >name that came with the purchase GeoIP-106_20041026.dat >Is there anything I need to do with the license key? This depends on which version of Summary you have. Versions of Summary prior to version 2.3 don't support GeoIP. Summary 2.3.x supports the MaxMind GeoIP Country Database, <http://www.maxmind.com/app/country?rId=summarynet>. Summary 2.3.x comes with a several years out of date copy of their database. For best results you should purchase the full version of the database. If you purchase the MaxMind GeoIP Country Database you should either name the file GeoIP.dat and place it in Summary's Config folder, or enter your license code into the "GeoIP license key (for downloading updates)" field on the Miscellaneous configuration page. Country reports based on GeoIP information appear in the Visitors : Countries : by GeoIP report. Summary 2.5.x supports the MaxMind GeoIP Region Database, <http://www.maxmind.com/app/region?rId=summarynet>. Summary 2.5.x comes with an uptodate but limited "trial" version of their database. For best results you should purchase the full version of the database. If you purchase the MaxMind GeoIP Country Database you should name the file GeoIPRegion.dat and place it in Summary's Config folder. Country reports based on GeoIP information appear in the Visitors : Countries : by GeoIP report. State/Provience reports based on GeoIP information appear in the Visitors : Countries : States report. In either case, if you have Summary Plus, SP Lite, or SP, you might want to disable the "Countries (Top Level Domains)" report, as it won't work unless you turn on DNS lookups. You can do this on the Disable Reports configuration page. That will make Visitors : Countries on the Report Menu link directly to the Countries by GeoIP report. For example, 'One Fish Two Fish, Red Fish Blue Fish' can be deconstructed as a searing indictment of the narrow-minded binary counting system. -- Peter van der Linden, Expert C Programming, Deep C Secrets ------------- Go to <http://summary.net/list.html> to update subscription info.
