When you restore a backup you are also resetting the configuration to
what it was at the time the backup was made. So the fact that it
reverted to an old temporary registration code means that it did
correctly restore the backup.

That means that you were not in incremental mode, so there isn't
anything you can do. The registration code issue has nothing to do with it.
