[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index] Re: [Summary-Talk] Need some help/advice setting up Summary
On Windows, if Summary is working when double clicked, but won't work when run as a service it is almost always a permissions problem. Services run under the local system account by default, while Summary runs as the user you are logged in as when double clicked or launched from the Start menu. The local system account my not have access to Summary and it's files, or to network shares that it needs access to, or have permission to open a server on the port it wants to serve reports on. None of these things are normally an issue on a standard Windows install, but Windows has quite a few different places where permissions can be set in ways that cause problems. One simple workaround is to reconfigure the Summary service to run as the same user you normally log in as. This can be set on the Services control panel, pick properties for the Summary service and change the user it logs in as. You might also try looking at the "summary.log" file located in Summary's Data folder and the Windows system event log. There may be more information about what is going wrong in one of those two places. Good Luck Jason -- Jason@xxxxxxxxxxx -- Dr. Seuss books . . . can be read and enjoyed on several levels. For example, 'One Fish Two Fish, Red Fish Blue Fish' can be deconstructed as a searing indictment of the narrow-minded binary counting system. -- Peter van der Linden, Expert C Programming, Deep C Secrets ------------- Go to <http://summary.net/list.html> to update subscription info.
