[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index] Re: [Summary-Talk] Adding "Visits" To Directories Report
Summary does not currently support visit counting on directories. I will add your request to our wish list for possible inclusion in a future version. The only way you can currently approximate this feature is to create a sub-report for each directory you are interested in tracking. Then visits in that sub-report will show visits to the sub-directory. Of course this is fairly memory intensive, and not practical if you have a large number of directories you want to track. Visit counting is a rather time and memory intensive feature. Tracking visits on directories is more complex than tracking visits on files because each request can contain several directories. For example a request for /a/b/c/d/e/f/g/index.html should count as a visit to /a, /a/b, /a/b/c, /a/b/c/d, /a/b/c/d/e, /a/b/c/d/e/f, and /a/b/c/d/e/f/g. Because visit tracking is difficult to begin with and directory support would only add to that complexity, adding visit tracking for directories would have a noticeable impact on performance. It isn't out of the question, but we have been hesitant to implement it because of the performance hit. Jason Michelle A. For example, 'One Fish Two Fish, Red Fish Blue Fish' can be deconstructed as a searing indictment of the narrow-minded binary counting system. -- Peter van der Linden, Expert C Programming, Deep C Secrets ------------- Go to <http://summary.net/list.html> to update subscription info.
