Re: [Summary-Talk] Adding "Visits" To Directories Report

Summary does not currently support visit counting on directories. I will
add your request to our wish list for possible inclusion in a future
version.

The only way you can currently approximate this feature is to create a
sub-report for each directory you are interested in tracking. Then
visits in that sub-report will show visits to the sub-directory. Of
course this is fairly memory intensive, and not practical if you have a
large number of directories you want to track.

Visit counting is a rather time and memory intensive feature. Tracking
visits on directories is more complex than tracking visits on files
because each request can contain several directories. For example a
request for /a/b/c/d/e/f/g/index.html should count as a visit to /a,
/a/b, /a/b/c, /a/b/c/d, /a/b/c/d/e, /a/b/c/d/e/f, and /a/b/c/d/e/f/g.
Because visit tracking is difficult to begin with and directory support
would only add to that complexity, adding visit tracking for directories
would have a noticeable impact on performance. It isn't out of the
question, but we have been hesitant to implement it because of the
performance hit.

Dr. Seuss books . . . can be read and enjoyed on several levels. For
example, 'One Fish Two Fish, Red Fish Blue Fish' can be deconstructed
as a searing indictment of the narrow-minded binary counting system.
